Simard AP44 VRF High Capacity Autopilot Pack

Install the Simrad AP44 VRF High Capacity Autopilot Pack, SKU 000-13562-001, on a compatible hydraulic-steered outboard or sterndrive vessel up to 15 m, or 50 ft. This complete high-capacity package includes the AP44 color autopilot controller, NAC-3 high-current autopilot computer, Precision-9 solid-state compass, RPU-160 reversible hydraulic pump, and the cabling and connectors needed to create or connect to an NMEA 2000 backbone. The included RPU-160 pump supports hydraulic-cylinder volumes from 160 to 550 cm³ and is controlled by the NAC-3. Simrad Virtual Rudder Feedback, or VRF, can eliminate a separate physical rudder-feedback sensor on suitable planing-hull outboard and sterndrive installations; it should not be assumed suitable for every steering system or hull type. The Precision-9 supports automatic compass calibration, while the AP44 provides a full-color display, rotary dial, and buttons for autopilot control. [267][275]

System Integration

This pack includes the main autopilot components but still requires correct hydraulic plumbing, hoses, fittings, electrical circuit protection, and vessel-specific installation planning. Confirm the steering-cylinder volume is within the 160 to 550 cm³ RPU-160 range, then verify pump fittings, hydraulic pressure, hose routing, helm configuration, and available mounting locations.

The AP44 offers automated turn patterns, No Drift steering, depth-contour tracking, and route navigation when connected to compatible Simrad navigation equipment and sensor sources. A connected chartplotter can provide waypoint and route navigation, but the skipper remains responsible for safe navigation and lookout. [267]
