Raymarine Type 2 Long Linear Drive Unit – 24V

Deep-rudder cruising sailboats up to 44,000 lbs hold course across ocean swells using this Raymarine Type 2 Long linear drive, which pushes 1,050 lbs of electromechanical thrust across an extended 16-inch stroke on 24V circuits.

  • 16-inch stroke maximizes rudder mechanical leverage
  • 1050-lb thrust controls yachts to 44000 lbs
  • 24V motor draws 5A under load
  • Low-backdrive design maintains light hand steering
  • IPX6 protected housing resists wet lockers

The Raymarine Type 2 Long Linear Drive Unit 24V is a heavy-duty electromechanical actuator for compatible mechanically steered vessels up to 20,000 kg, or 44,000 lb, displacement. It provides a 400 mm, or 16-inch, linear stroke and connects to an independent tiller arm or steering quadrant through a robust pivot and clevis linkage. This is a drive-only component that requires a compatible 24V high-current actuator control unit, autopilot control head, heading sensor, power circuit, and engineered steering linkage.

The 24V Type 2 Long drive provides up to 480 kg, or 1,050 lb, peak thrust and draws up to 10A at 24V under maximum load. Its electric clutch reduces steering drag when disengaged to help preserve normal manual steering. The 10.5 kg drive requires a rigid structural foundation, precise linkage geometry, and sufficient clearance for full actuator travel.

System Integration

This is not a complete autopilot system. It requires a compatible 24V high-current control unit, control head, heading sensor, steering linkage, protected power circuit, and rudder-feedback arrangement where required. Do not connect the drive to a 12V system or lower-current controller.

Match the drive to actual vessel displacement, rudder torque, tiller-arm radius, steering geometry, stroke requirement, drive-current demand, and manual-override requirements. A physical rudder-feedback sensor may be required depending on the selected autopilot system and vessel steering configuration.

Before Ordering

Confirm a compatible mechanically steered vessel up to 44,000 lb, required 400 mm stroke, suitable quadrant or independent tiller-arm geometry, rigid mounting structure, approved 24V high-current control unit, 24V supply, 10A circuit capacity, clutch wiring, feedback requirement, protected mounting location, and complete autopilot-system components before purchase.
