The published approximate detection figures—about 1,500 ft for a person and 0.67 NM for a vessel—are conditional estimates, not guaranteed recognition or detection distances. Thermal performance depends on target heat contrast, humidity, air and water temperature, sea state, rain, spray, range, lens condition, and mounting location.
