Marine gearboxes transfer engine power to the propulsion system while providing the required reduction ratio and direction of rotation. Selection depends on engine torque, rated speed, duty cycle, ratio, bell housing, control system and shaft arrangement.Alignment, cooling, lubrication and mounting must be checked as part of the installation. Gearbox matching should be completed from the engine and vessel specifications.
