The Raymarine ST4000MK2/ST4000+ Wheel Drive is a replacement mechanical wheel-drive unit, not a complete autopilot system. It attaches to a compatible cockpit steering wheel and uses a motor-driven belt and ring-gear mechanism to turn the wheel. A quick-release clutch lever disengages the drive for manual steering takeover.
The wheel drive is specified for compatible sailboats up to 16,500 lb, or 7,500 kg, displacement. It operates from a 12V DC supply, draws 1A to 3A typically, and can reach 7A under maximum load. The 1.5 kg drive uses a UV-stabilized high-impact polymer housing with IPX6 splash protection and includes the drive belt, motor gear, and clutch lever.
System Integration
This wheel drive needs a compatible ST4000MK2 or ST4000+ autopilot system, including the appropriate control head, course computer, heading sensor, wiring, and power supply. It is not a substitute for a compatible complete pilot, and it should not be used to drive a higher-current Type 1 linear actuator.
Verify wheel size, hub fitment, pedestal clearance, spoke clearance, drive-belt path, manual clutch access, steering friction, vessel displacement, and the exact existing Raymarine system model before ordering a replacement drive.
