Integration
The transceiver requires a suitable dedicated AIS/VHF antenna or approved splitter, properly programmed MMSI and vessel static data, and a compatible MFD, PC, or mobile application to view AIS targets. It is not a VHF voice radio, radar, chartplotter, emergency beacon, or collision-avoidance guarantee.
SOTDMA Class B+ equipment typically provides 5W transmit power and more predictable access to AIS time slots than standard 2W CSTDMA Class B systems. AIS target data still depends on antenna placement, VHF coverage, and other vessels transmitting accurate information. Not every vessel or navigational hazard is equipped with AIS.
