Garmin GMR Fantom 18x Dome Radar – Black

The Garmin GMR Fantom 18x Dome Radar in Black, SKU 010-02584-01, is an 18-inch solid-state marine radar radome with MotionScope Doppler technology. It is designed for compatible Garmin chartplotters and multifunction displays using Garmin Marine Network Ethernet. The compact enclosed radar dome provides CHIRP pulse-compression performance, Doppler target highlighting, selectable rotation speeds up to 60 RPM, and a maximum instrumented range of 48 NM.

The GMR Fantom 18x requires a compatible Garmin chartplotter, Garmin Marine Network connection, suitable radar mount, and correctly sized 10V to 32V DC power supply. It is a radar scanner rather than a chartplotter; charts, GPS data, heading source, AIS, and other navigation sensors are separate system components. Practical target detection varies with mounting height, target size, weather, sea state, interference, and radar settings.

Radar Integration

The Fantom 18x requires a compatible Garmin chartplotter or MFD and Garmin Marine Network Ethernet connection for radar display and control. NMEA 2000 can provide compatible GPS, heading, AIS, autopilot, and other sensor data, but it is not the radar-video network. A compatible heading sensor and GPS source are required for functions such as radar overlay and MARPA target tracking.

MotionScope Doppler processing can help highlight moving targets, subject to target motion, scanner settings, sea clutter, rain, and operating conditions. Radar is a navigation aid and does not replace a proper lookout, safe speed, official charts, local notices, or collision-regulation compliance.
