The Garmin gWind Race is a high-performance masthead wind transducer for racing sailors who need wind data from a longer, more prominent sensor pole. It connects to a Nexus network through RS-485 and can reach NMEA 2000 equipment through a GND 10 bridge. This is a sensor-only product, so the display, bridge hardware, and network components must be planned separately.

The 1m pole places the sensor higher above local airflow disturbance, which can be useful when sail trim and apparent wind readings need to be consistent. The unit runs from 9-16V DC and carries an IPX6 rating for exposed masthead service. One Nexus connection is provided, with no wireless radio and no direct NMEA 2000 connection at the sensor. Confirm the existing Nexus or GND 10 path before ordering.

Who Is This For?

This racing wind transducer suits performance sailboats and crews replacing or upgrading a compatible Nexus wind sensor. It is not ideal for a boat without Nexus or GND 10 equipment, because there is no display, wireless connection, or direct NMEA 2000 interface included.

Warranty & Support

Garmin provides a 2-year manufacturer warranty. The supplied specifications do not state warranty exclusions or service procedures.

The gWind Race is the performance-oriented alternative to the standard gWind sensor, using a longer 1m pole for masthead placement. Its trade-off is system dependence: it needs a Nexus network or GND 10 bridge and a separate display. Choose it when racing accuracy and masthead placement matter, not for a standalone wind instrument installation.
