The Raymarine Rotary Drive Type 2 12V is a heavy-duty electromechanical chain-drive actuator for compatible mechanically steered vessels. It uses a reversing 12V DC motor to turn the steering shaft through a correctly sized marine chain and sprocket arrangement. The drive is intended for vessels up to 20,000 kg, or 44,000 lb, displacement, and must be used as part of a complete autopilot system with a compatible actuator control unit, control head, heading sensor, and steering linkage. The Type 2 rotary drive develops up to 3,000 lb-in, or 340 Nm, of peak torque and has a listed shaft speed of 33 RPM. It draws 5A to 7A typically and up to 15A under full load. The 6 kg cast-alloy drive measures approximately 255 mm deep by 160 mm wide and includes a sprocket and installation hardware. Its electromechanical clutch reduces steering drag when disengaged for manual helm control.
