The Simrad NAC-2 Autopilot Core Pack with Precision-9 Compass is a mid-capacity autopilot electronics package for compatible hydraulic and mechanical steering systems. It includes the NAC-2 course computer, Precision-9 solid-state nine-axis heading sensor, and NMEA 2000 network components. A compatible autopilot display or multifunction display, steering drive, hydraulic pump or actuator, and feedback equipment where required must be selected separately.
The NAC-2 supports 12V or 24V systems and provides 8A continuous drive output with up to 16A peak output. It is intended for correctly matched medium-capacity steering systems, including compatible RPU80 or RPU160 pumps and approved mechanical drives. The Precision-9 supplies heading, rate-of-turn, pitch, and roll data through the NMEA 2000 backbone.
System Integration
This is not a complete autopilot system because it does not include a control display, steering drive, hydraulic pump, actuator, or vessel-specific mounting and plumbing hardware. Select the drive according to steering type, hydraulic-cylinder volume where applicable, required flow, actuator thrust or torque, current demand, duty cycle, and manual-steering requirements.
Virtual Rudder Feedback may be suitable for certain compatible hydraulic outboard or sterndrive installations, but larger hydraulic systems, mechanical steering arrangements, and some vessel configurations require physical rudder feedback. The NAC-2 must not be used with a drive that exceeds its 8A continuous output capacity.
