Integration
The MDA-1 needs a dedicated AIS/VHF antenna or approved splitter, a compatible MFD, chartplotter, computer, or mobile app, and accurately entered MMSI/static vessel data. It is not a radar, VHF voice radio, chartplotter, EPIRB, or guaranteed collision-avoidance device.
AIS data relies on VHF reception and on other AIS-equipped vessels transmitting correct information. Receiving AIS targets does not mean every boat, buoy, floating object, or hazard will appear. Before transmitting in the U.S., obtain and program the correct MMSI and follow applicable radio rules. [926][928]
