Raymarine Type 2 Linear Drive – 12V

Quadrant-steered cruising sailboats up to 33,000 lbs maintain course stability with this Raymarine Type 2 linear drive, delivering 1,050 lbs of peak electromechanical thrust across a 12-inch stroke in 11 seconds at 12V.

  • 1050-lb thrust moves heavy sailboat quadrants
  • 12-inch stroke completes traversal in 11 seconds
  • Electromechanical clutch ensures zero manual drag
  • Hardened steel linkage withstands heavy rudder loads
  • IPX6 protected casing resists wet locker environments

The Raymarine Type 2 Linear Drive 12V is a high-thrust electromechanical actuator for compatible mechanically steered sailboats and displacement vessels. It connects directly to a steering quadrant or independent tiller arm through a heavy-duty foot-pivot and clevis linkage. This is a drive-only component and requires a matched high-current actuator control unit or course computer, control head, heading sensor, correctly engineered linkage, and complete autopilot installation.

The 12V drive provides up to 480 kg, or 1,050 lb, of peak thrust through a 300 mm, or 12-inch, linear push-pull stroke. It uses a high-torque permanent-magnet DC motor and electric clutch, draws approximately 5A to 9A in typical operation, and can reach 20A at peak load. The electric clutch reduces steering drag when disengaged, helping preserve normal manual steering control.

System Integration

This drive must be matched to vessel steering load, displacement, rudder travel, tiller-arm radius, linkage geometry, and compatible course-computer output. Use an approved high-current ACU or course computer; do not connect the Type 2 linear drive to a lower-current wheel-drive or tiller-drive controller.

The electric clutch and motor require correctly sized marine-grade wiring, suitable fuse or circuit-breaker protection, secure terminals, and proper strain relief. A physical rudder-feedback sensor may be required depending on the selected autopilot system and steering configuration.

Before Ordering

Confirm vessel displacement up to 33,000 lb, compatible mechanical steering, sufficient 300 mm stroke clearance, suitable quadrant or tiller-arm geometry, structural mounting strength, approved high-current ACU or course computer, 12V supply, 20A peak circuit capacity, clutch wiring, rudder-feedback requirement, protected mounting location, and complete autopilot-system components before purchase.
