Simrad A2004 Autopilot Pack – No Compass
Commercial workboat consoles interface with existing bridge gyrocompasses using the Simrad A2004 corepack, which combines an A2004 rotary display, NAC-3 high-current computer, and RF300 feedback to drive commercial steering gear across 12V or 24V systems.
- NAC-3 computer handles 50A peak solenoid loads
- A2004 rotary display delivers tactile course command
- RF300 transducer tracks physical rudder angles
- Dual 12V/24V support integrates commercial grids
- IPX6 display front panel protects open helms
The Simrad A2004 Autopilot Pack without Compass provides a commercial-grade autopilot controller, NAC-3 high-current course computer, and RF300 physical rudder-feedback unit, but does not include a heading compass. It is intended for commercial and professional vessels that already have a compatible heading source or require a separately selected compass. A steering drive, hydraulic pump, solenoid assembly, and vessel-specific installation hardware must also be supplied separately.
The A2004 controller provides a dedicated color display with rotary-dial and push-button controls, while the NAC-3 controls compatible high-current hydraulic pumps, linear drives, or solenoid steering systems. The RF300 provides physical rudder-angle feedback through a mechanical linkage and cable. Add a compatible compass—such as a Precision-9 or suitable professional heading sensor—before the autopilot can be fully configured and commissioned. [253][260]
System Requirements
This package cannot determine vessel heading until a compatible compass is added. The RF300 measures actual rudder angle, but it is not a heading sensor. A complete installation therefore requires a heading source, steering drive, suitable power circuit, correct drive wiring, network arrangement, and full dockside plus sea-trial commissioning.
Select the drive based on vessel displacement, hydraulic-cylinder volume where applicable, maximum current demand, solenoid type, steering-gear design, and required rudder force. The NAC-3’s 50A peak capability does not mean that every 50A drive is suitable without confirming duty cycle, supply wiring, circuit protection, and manufacturer compatibility.
Before Ordering
Confirm the existing or separately selected heading sensor, hydraulic pump or steering drive, RF300 linkage position, 12V or 24V electrical system, 50A peak circuit capacity, NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183 network, A2004 control-head mounting location, NAC-3 protected mounting space, and complete commercial autopilot installation requirements before purchase.
