The Simrad AC70 Course Computer is a high-current professional autopilot processor for compatible commercial, large cruising, and heavy-duty steering systems. It supports reversible hydraulic pumps, mechanical drives, solenoid-controlled steering, and constant-running pump arrangements when correctly matched with an approved Simrad autopilot system. The AC70 works with compatible A2004, AP70, and AP80 control heads and connects through NMEA 2000 and SimNet networks.

The computer supports 12V or 24V DC systems and provides 30A continuous output with up to 50A peak drive capacity. Its high-current H-bridge output and professional screw terminals are intended for heavy-duty steering loads, but the selected motor, pump, linear drive, or solenoid arrangement must be within the documented operating limits. The IPX2 enclosure requires dry, vertical bulkhead mounting away from spray, flooding, and heat.

System Integration

The AC70 is a course computer only. It requires a compatible control head, heading sensor, steering drive, feedback method where required, network infrastructure, and correctly sized power circuit. Select the steering drive according to vessel displacement, hydraulic-cylinder volume, required rudder force, maximum current, duty cycle, solenoid configuration, and manual override requirements.

Mount the AC70 vertically on a dry interior bulkhead with adequate ventilation and access for heavy-gauge wiring. Use the appropriate fuse or circuit breaker, conductor size, strain relief, and terminal protection for the selected drive. A 50A peak rating should not be treated as a generic recommendation for every steering actuator without confirming the complete system design.

Before Ordering

Confirm a compatible Simrad control head, selected steering drive or pump, 12V or 24V supply, drive current and duty cycle, required feedback sensor, NMEA 2000 or SimNet network, dry vertical mounting space, 30A continuous and 50A peak circuit capacity, cable sizing, and complete commercial autopilot-system requirements before purchase.
