Add receive-only AIS traffic data to a Furuno navigation network with the Furuno FA40 AIS Receiver. Its dual-channel receiver monitors both AIS frequencies at the same time and sends received vessel data through NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183, making it useful for chartplotters and radar displays that need AIS target overlays without transmitting the boat’s own position. Need basic AIS awareness without the registration requirements of a transponder? The FA40 provides low-power below-deck operation with status LEDs and a compact surface-mount enclosure.

Integration

The FA40 requires a suitable AIS/VHF antenna or approved splitter and a compatible chartplotter, MFD, radar display, or navigation computer. It is not an AIS transceiver, VHF voice radio, GPS receiver, radar, chartplotter, or emergency beacon. Because it is receive-only, it will not make the vessel visible to other AIS-equipped traffic.

AIS reception depends on antenna height, coaxial cable condition, local radio interference, terrain, weather, and other vessels transmitting valid data. AIS does not show every vessel, floating object, buoy, or navigation hazard and should supplement—not replace—radar, charts, visual lookout, and safe navigation practices.

Before Ordering

Confirm Furuno display compatibility, available NMEA 2000/NMEA 0183 input, AIS antenna or splitter requirements, dry mounting location, 12V/24V power availability, and whether receive-only AIS meets the vessel’s operating needs before ordering.
