A low-profile vertical gypsy gives theMaxwell RC8-8a compact 12V deck arrangement without a warping capstan. The 1,000W motor has a stated maximum pull of 1,320 lbs and a 440 lbs continuous working-load rating. Its heavy chrome-plated bronze body contains stainless steel internal components.

The gypsy accepts 5/16 in short-link chain with 9/16 to 5/8 in three-strand or 8-plait rope. A patented Wave Design free-fall clutch controls the listed release function, and an emergency manual release provides the listed alternate control feature.

Which Boats This Windlass Fits

The RC8-8 low-profile windlass is recommended for powerboats and sailboats from 28 to 44 ft. Its gypsy requires 5/16 in short-link chain with 9/16 to 5/8 in three-strand or 8-plait rope. Boat owners should match chain link style, chain diameter, rope diameter, and rope construction before selecting an anchor rode.

The 1,320 lbs figure represents the listed maximum pull rating. The 440 lbs working-load rating provides the separate continuous hauling value. The continuous figure gives the relevant reference for normal retrieval planning.

Care and Operating Notes

Rinse the housing, gypsy, chain, rope, and accessible internal surfaces with fresh water after saltwater exposure. Clear salt, sand, mud, and debris from the rope-to-chain transition and Wave Design clutch before operation. Inspect chain links, rope condition, clutch movement, manual-release access, visible fasteners, and electrical connections before departure. Follow the manufacturer manual for clutch service, lubricant selection, disassembly, and approved replacement parts.

Warranty and Support

The RC8-8 carries a 3-year limited manufacturer warranty. Coverage follows the manufacturer’s stated warranty terms and may be subject to exclusions, conditions, and registration requirements.

Before Ordering

Confirm that your anchor rode uses 5/16 in short-link chain with 9/16 to 5/8 in three-strand or 8-plait rope. You should compare your vessel with the 28 to 44 ft application guide, reserve space for the 83 mm above-deck height and 156 mm base diameter, and confirm the 12V system can use the required 100A breaker. Consult manufacturer installation documentation for deck thickness, mounting dimensions, and below-deck clearance.
